JOHN CARES ABOUT OUR COMMUNITY!

John grew up on a family farm near the small San Joaquin Valley town of Orosi, California, and has lived in Davis since 1978. He has been married to the love of his life, Shelly, for 50 years! They have three children – two of whom live in other states and one who often works in other countries.

John is a graduate of UC Davis with Bachelor of Science degrees in Soil and Water Science and in Engineering and a Master of Science degree in Soil Science. He has worked at a variety of agricultural jobs, for the US Forest Service, and for the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CDF, also known as CalFire). This combination of experience in agriculture, natural sciences, and government gives him a broad background in resource issues that is badly needed for future environmental, agricultural, and natural science legislation.

For years John has been active in community affairs and has served in leadership positions that include:

* An elected member of the Davis School Board from 1997 through 2001 – making him familiar with educational issues both as a parent and as a Board Member who has helped lead a district that is noted for its good schools.

* President of the Yolo County School Boards Association

* President of the Yolo County Taxpayer’s Association

* President of the Professional Soil Scientists Association of California

* Chairman of the Yolo County Republican Central Committee – where he successfully worked to build consensus among members

* Republican nominee for State Assembly
